The Lennox Family
— The Social Publication | August 2024
Heather, Scott, and their son Henry Lennox are a lively family that has been calling Sonoma home for the past 12 years. Originally from London, Scott convinced Heather, a Northern California native, to relocate, and they haven’t looked back since. They live up the hill on the east side of Agua Caliente in a house they adore. They’ve made it their own over the years and have big plans to transform the basement into a home theater and hangout spot with a top-notch stereo system for their record collection. Their next project is an outdoor kitchen with a double fireplace, perfect for hosting s’mores parties.
Heather and Scott met in Las Vegas at a Rockabilly event in 2007. Even though they lived on opposite sides of the world - Heather in San Francisco and Scott in London - they fell in love. The following year, at the same event, they tied the knot in the Tunnel of Love, Las Vegas’ only drive-through wedding chapel, riding in a ‘57 Chevy. Heather left her job at DePietro Todd to move to London with Scott, starting their adventure together.
Both Heather and Scott are in the hair industry. Heather trained at Vidal Sassoon on Sutter Street in San Francisco in the ‘90’s, perfecting her color skills. Scott, who was originally a mason, switched careers a decade ago when he moved to California. He attended barber school and trained at JP Kempt in San Francisco under the guidance of a well-known barber named Shorty Maniace. Scott now splits his time between Sonoma and San Francisco.
The couple loves spending time with their clients at their salon, Haven + The Hideout, but they also enjoy family time. They love going to the beach with Henry for surfing, and thrift shopping at places like Bon Marche and Republic of Thrift. Sonoma’s dining scene is another favorite, with spots like Allikai, Sonoma Eats, Layla’s locals night, and Stanley Ranch being their top choices. Heather enjoys some “me” time by getting facials at Hale House at Stanley Ranch, especially on locals day. Scott, on the other hand, is likely to found grilling at a tailgate. Heather grew up in Eureka, went to high school in St. Helena and then beauty school at 18.
Henry, who will turn 14 this summer, is quiet and reserved like his dad. However, he has a wicked sense of humor once you get him talking. He has a great personal style and loves thrift shopping. Henry is also musically talented, playing percussion instruments like drums and vibraphone. He takes drum lessons at Cannon a couple times a week. His favorite activities including plays and enjoying live music and surfing.
The Lennox family loves to escape to Palm Springs to visit Heather’s parents or travel to favorite spots like London and Spain. They have two hairless cats and two dogs, which adds to their unique family dynamic. One of their cherished family traditions is making Boxing Day as fun as Christmas, opening gifts from Scott’s family in London. For Father’s Day, they enjoy stocking Scott’s beer fridge with a variety of beers, including local favorites from Sonoma Springs.
The Lennox family is deeply rooted in their community, thanks to their home, school and business connections. They love the people they meet through their work and the strong sense of community in Sonoma. Heather and Scott are passionate about giving back and are working on creating a training program for aspiring hair stylists. This program will help train the next generation of stylists, providing proper training and licenses for those interested.
On a typical Saturday night, you’ll find the Lennox family at home, enjoying a Sonoma Eats burrito by an outdoor fire with some marshmallows roasting. For date nights, they love heading to Kapu bar in Petaluma or grabbing a burger at the new Valley Swim Club.
Heather and Scott’s salon, Haven + The Hideout, is their pride and joy, and they enjoy every moment spent with their clients. Their journey from London and San Francisco to Sonoma has been filled with love, creativity and community, making them a cherished part of their neighborhood.
Sonoma Scene: Haircuts in the Hideout
— Sonoma Index Tribune | 7/21/21
Hiding out in a small, stylish corner of the second floor of 21 Patten Street is a new barber shop offering haircuts, beard trims and straight edge razors shaves (around $50). The Hideout is open by appointment only Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with limited evening appointments.
Longtime Sonoma resident – but original Brit - Scott Lennox has spent the past seven years commuting to San Francisco’s famed J.P. Kempt Barber and Social on Divisadero Street.
During COVID, Lennox hatched a plan to open his own spot offering a new barbershop experience in Sonoma. When a downtown space became available immediately above his wife Heather’s salon, the Haven, just off Broadway, it seemed like fate.
The Hideout is decorated with mid-century modern wood furniture, gleaming surfaces, comfortable sofas, dark green walls and… Big Foot art.
“It started as a lark,” said Heather. “We found one big foot painting and loved it so much that we bought others at thrift stores and hired a friend to add Big Foot onto those paintings.”
The salon has one chair but clients who arrive early can amuse themselves with Nintendo cartridge games in the comfortable waiting room, and enjoy a free cold beer.
